Australia Temporary Work (Short Stay) subclass 400 Visa Requirement

Who can use this visa 
  • If you want to undertake short-term, non-ongoing, highly specialised work in Australia; or
  • If you want to participate in non-ongoing cultural or social events at the invitation of an organisation in Australia
Who is eligible to get this visa 
  • You must be able to demonstrate that you have the support of the business or organisation for which you will be undertaking the proposed work or activity in Australia
  • You will be undertaking short-term highly specialised work in Australia in a non-ongoing position or role;
  • You have been invited by an organisation in Australia to participate in one or more specified non-ongoing events, without being paid from a source in Australia forthat participation (appearance fees, prize money and reimbursement for reasonable expenses are permitted);
  • There are compelling circumstances affecting the inerests of Australia for granting you a visa
  • You must be outside Australia to make an application

Who Cannot Use This Visa 
A Person who goes for ;
  • tourism;
  • work in an ongoing position;
  • business visits;
  • working in the entertainment industry (unless involved in a production that will not be shown in Australia); 
  • training or study
Required documents for Sub Class 400

  • Form 1400 Application for a Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity)
  • Copy of all pages of current passport, including the bio data page, alterations page and back page of the passport
  • If you have held any passports previously, kindly include copies of all used pages of the old passport
  • One recent passport-sized photograph (45 mm x 35 mm) The photograph should be of the head and shoulders only against a plain background
  • Covering Letter from your employer – stating your position and salary, length of employment, confirming the reason for your travel and providing contact details of the person providing the letter. You must show details of the position, the duration of the work, your role or duties and the reason you are required in Australia
  • Letter of invitation from the inviting organisation in Australia that includes the event name, the dates of the event, your role or duties, and the role of the inviting organisation in the event.
  • Copies of bank statements (personal and business) for the 6 month period preceding the visa lodgement, showing a consistent savings history.
  • Taxation documents for the last three years
  • A detailed resume with all skill sets.
  • Your employment contract.
  • Copies of educational and professional qualifications
 Processing time : minimum 5 to 10 working days.

Duration Allowed to stay in Sub Class 400
  • This visa allows up to a 6 month stay in Australia with the usual grant period being up to 3 months.
  • This means you are likely to complete the work or activity within 6 months and you have not been given an expectation of, or made arrangements for, staying in Australia to do the work or activity after that period. You are required to provide
  • A strong business case if the requested period of stay is 3 months or more;

  • Passport 
  • Notarized copy of your passport..
  • Duly filled and signed Australia tourist visa form (No 1419 ) by the applicant
  • Form 956 if you are applying through an agent or authorized person
  • Two white background Photos .
  • A visa requisition letter.
  • Financial supporting Documents;(bank statement,Tax filing receipts) 
  • NOC from employer–if employed.
  • Retirement documents -if you are a retired person from Job. 
  • Bonafide certificate -If  students travelling.
  • Form 1229  from parent/Parents -if the the applicant age is below 18 year and not traveling with either or both of his or her parents or lawfull guardians
  • A Notarized ‘no objection certificate’ from non-accompanying parent authorizing minor(below 18 year) travel to Australia along with copies of the parents’ passports -if the the applicant age is below 18 year and not traveling with either or both of his or her parents or guardians
  • Form 1257 Undertaking declaration -Where children are travelling or staying with non-relatives and A declaration of support signed by the person -responsible for that child in Australia. .

  • An invitation letter.
  • Copy of the passport
  • Copy of the visa and resident permit (if the invitee is not an Australian national)
  • Copy of the Financial supporting documents (if sponsoring the travel)

Time Taken for processing visa
Processing time varies according to workload and season
Mostly taking between 3 to 4 weeks(for high risk countries. e.g. India,Bangladesh,Philippines, ) and 2 to 3 working day in low risk countries(USA,EU Countries etc)
If previously, the Applicant has been refused a visa, has been asked to provide additional information or is likely undergo a medical examination, decision on application may take longer.

Medical  Requirement:


  • Applicants over 75 years of age and any applicant requesting a stay of 12 months must provide evidence of Overseas Health Insurance

Australia Business Visa Information

Required documents from the applicant to file paper visa application
  • Passport with minimum six months validity from the date of travel (it is required only for verification in Visa Application Center)
  • Notarized copy of your passport. This includes:
    • all pages of your current passport ; and
    • all non blank pages(like visa,arrival departure seal) of your previous passports.  
  • One Australia Business visa form (No 1415 )duly filled and signed by the applicant
  • Form 956 if you are applying through an agent or authorized person
  • Two or three Photos (see the detailed photo specification below )
    • Taken against a white background
    • Without border
    • Glossy or semi-matt finish
    • Size of the photo (35 X 45 mm).
  • A visa requisition letter from the Company. Please ensure following information available in covering letter 
    • It should be in company’s original letter head with company address on it
    • It should be addressed to” The visa officer Australian Immigration, 
    • Introduction about the company, Name and designation of the Applicant
    • Purpose and duration of the travel, Brief sketch of the company to be visited.
    • Name, contact number and email address designation of the of the signatory (of a managerial or executive level)
  • Invitation Letter from the invitee company in Austria (Please ensure following requirements meets a invitation )

  • Passport with minimum six months validity.
  • Notarized copy of your passport.
  • One Australia tourist visa form (No 1419 )duly filled and signed by the applicant
  • Form 956 if you are applying through an agent or authorized person

  • A Complete tour itinerary / Tour Voucher 
  • Proof of accommodation in Australia (eg: Hotel Booking)
