Oct 19, 2010

Austria Work Visa Requirements

Process overview
Step 1. Austrian company must apply for a Certificate of Guarantee (Sicherungsbescheinigung) to the local Labor Office (Arbeitsmarketservice) with jurisdiction over the place of intended work. This step is not necessary if the assignment does not exceed four months. In those cases, the foreign national may directly obtain a Secondment Permit.
Step 2. After issuance of the Certificate of Guarantee, apply for a visa (for a stay of less than six months) or a residence permit (for a stay of more than six months).
Step 3. Upon issuance of the visa or residence permit, the Austrian company may request a work permit.
Upon arrival, taking up residence in Austria must register name and address with the local Registration Office within three days of their arrival.

Note: If you intend to work longer than six months, the applicant should apply for a residency-permit, and not for a visa. The Visa “D+C” allows only a stay up to 6 month within a period of one year and is not extendable. If a “D+C” visa is issued, the applicant is allowed to travel to any other Schengen member states only for a period of up to 90 days during the validity of the visa.
