Australia Temporary Work (Short Stay) subclass 400 Visa Requirement

Who can use this visa 
  • If you want to undertake short-term, non-ongoing, highly specialised work in Australia; or
  • If you want to participate in non-ongoing cultural or social events at the invitation of an organisation in Australia
Who is eligible to get this visa 
  • You must be able to demonstrate that you have the support of the business or organisation for which you will be undertaking the proposed work or activity in Australia
  • You will be undertaking short-term highly specialised work in Australia in a non-ongoing position or role;
  • You have been invited by an organisation in Australia to participate in one or more specified non-ongoing events, without being paid from a source in Australia forthat participation (appearance fees, prize money and reimbursement for reasonable expenses are permitted);
  • There are compelling circumstances affecting the inerests of Australia for granting you a visa
  • You must be outside Australia to make an application

Who Cannot Use This Visa 
A Person who goes for ;
  • tourism;
  • work in an ongoing position;
  • business visits;
  • working in the entertainment industry (unless involved in a production that will not be shown in Australia); 
  • training or study
Required documents for Sub Class 400

  • Form 1400 Application for a Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity)
  • Copy of all pages of current passport, including the bio data page, alterations page and back page of the passport
  • If you have held any passports previously, kindly include copies of all used pages of the old passport
  • One recent passport-sized photograph (45 mm x 35 mm) The photograph should be of the head and shoulders only against a plain background
  • Covering Letter from your employer – stating your position and salary, length of employment, confirming the reason for your travel and providing contact details of the person providing the letter. You must show details of the position, the duration of the work, your role or duties and the reason you are required in Australia
  • Letter of invitation from the inviting organisation in Australia that includes the event name, the dates of the event, your role or duties, and the role of the inviting organisation in the event.
  • Copies of bank statements (personal and business) for the 6 month period preceding the visa lodgement, showing a consistent savings history.
  • Taxation documents for the last three years
  • A detailed resume with all skill sets.
  • Your employment contract.
  • Copies of educational and professional qualifications
 Processing time : minimum 5 to 10 working days.

Duration Allowed to stay in Sub Class 400
  • This visa allows up to a 6 month stay in Australia with the usual grant period being up to 3 months.
  • This means you are likely to complete the work or activity within 6 months and you have not been given an expectation of, or made arrangements for, staying in Australia to do the work or activity after that period. You are required to provide
  • A strong business case if the requested period of stay is 3 months or more;

  1. Government of India has launched electronic travel authorisation or eTA for India which allows citizens of 180 countries to travel to India without requiring a physical stamping on the passport.
