Indian Tourist Visa Information

Who is eligible to get a Indian Tourist Visa
Tourist Visa is granted for visiting India for recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends and relatives etc. No other activity is permissible on a Tourist Visa.
Note: If a person holding ‘Tourist’ visa is found to be involved in Business activities or found working, action may be taken for visa violation.

What is the Validity of an Indian Tourist Visa?
Generally tourist visa is given for 6 months; it can be more or less and it specifically depends on the country of residence.
Tourist visa up to 5 years may be granted if the foreigner is connected with the tourism trade.

What documents required for Indian Tourist visa
The applicant is required to produce/submit documents in proof of his financial standing, travel, accommodation etc.

Instructions for Foreigners possessing Tourist Visa.

  1. A Tourist Visa can be granted to a foreigner who does not have a residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, site seeing, causal visit to meet friends/relatives in India.
  2. Tourist visa is non extendable and non convertible.
  3. There shall be a gap of at least two months between two visits to India on a Tourist Visa.
  4. If a foreign national is required to visit the country again within a period of two months of his last departure such foreign nationals shall obtained special permission from the mission/port concerned.

Registration:
Registration with the nearest FRRO/FROs is required only if the foreigner holding tourist visa has entered India for the second time within 60 days of the last departure.
Such Residential Permit/Registration Certificate issued to the foreigner whould be valid only for period of 180 days or 90 days as the case may be. The 180 days would be calculated from the 1st date of entry into the country within 60 days.
Once such a foreigner exits the country after availing the facility (within the visa validity period or the stay stiuplation period of 180/90 days as the case may be) there shall be a gap of atleast two month from the date of final exit before he/she can come again to India.

Penalty for late Registration
No fee is requried to be paid for registraiton, but a penalty in Indian Currency equivalent to US$ 30/- (Rs. 1395/-) in case of late registration is charged.

Requirements at the time of Registration
Every foreigner at the time of Registration, shall furnish, such information in registration report, as may be in his possession for the purpose of atisfying the Registration Officer and shall, on being required, shall sign the registration report in the presence of the said officer and shall thereupon be entitled to receive from the said officer a certificate of registration in Part-III of Form-A.
The following documents are required to be submitted at the time of registration.
  • 4 recent passport size photographs;
  • Photocopy of arrival stamp, photo page and valid Indian Visa page of the passport;
  • Proof of residential address in India or copy of C-Form from the Hotel

Who can get Indian e-Tourist Visa
If you are holding passport of following(76) countries and fulfil below given elgibility criteria, you can get E-Tourist Visa

Eligibility Criteria
  1. Your sole objective of visiting India is recreation,sight seeing,casual visit to meet friends or relatives, short duration medical treatment or casual business visit.
  2. Your Passport should have at least six months validity from the date of arrival in India. The passport should have at least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer.
  3. You should have return ticket or onward journey ticket,with sufficient money to spend during his/her stay in India.
  4. Each individual visitor should have a separate passport.and it is not available to individuals endorsed on Parent’s/Spouse’s Passport
  5. Not available to those who are having Pakistani Passport or Pakistani origin. They must apply for regular Visa at Indian Mission.
  6. Not available to Diplomatic/Official Passport Holders.Means, it is available for Regular/Normal Passport holders
  7. Not available to International Travel Document Holders(Like UN Refugee Card)-You must have a regular passport
Validity of Indian E Tourist Visa
  • e-Ttourist Visa is a single entry visa and it is valid for 30 days from the date of issue
How Many Days I can stay on Indian E Tourist Visa
  • You can stay up to 30 days from the date of arrival but must arrive before the expiry date of visa.
  • Also note,e-Tourist Visa  is allowed for a maximum of two visits in a calendar year.
  • e-Tourist Visa is a single entry , non-extendable , non-convertible & not valid for visiting Protected/Restricted and Cantonment Areas.
Time Taken to process Indian E Tourist Visa
  • Minimum 4 working days
  • You may apply online minimum 4 days in advance of the date of arrival with a window of 30 days.
  • Example : If you are applying on 1st September then applicant can select arrival date from 5th September to 4th October
Fee for Indian E Tourist Visa
  • US$ 60/- per passenger excluding interchange charge for credit/debit cards.
  • The fee must be paid at least 4 days before the expected date of travel filled by you otherwise application will not be processed
  • eTV fee once submitted is non-refundable as the fee is for processing of the application and is not dependent on either Grant or Rejection of VISA.
Documents to required to apply for Indian e-Tourist Visa
  1. Scanned First Page of Passport containing personal details like name,date of birth, nationality , expiry date etc. to be uploaded by the applicant.
    • Passport Scan Format -PDF Size : Minimum 10 KB ,Maximum 300 KB
  2. Recent front facing digital photograph with white background and
    • The digital photograph to be uploaded along with the Visa application should meet the following requirements:
    • Format – JPEG Size- Minimum 10 KB Maximum 1 MB
    • The height and width of the Photo must be equal.
    • Photo should present Full face, front view, eyes open.
    • Center head within frame and present full head from top of hair to bottom of chin.
    • Background should be white and plain
    • Photo should be without borders.
The application is liable to be rejected if the uploaded document and photograph are not clear / as per specification.
Documents required at the Time of Travel to India
  1. Passport should have at least six months validity from the date of arrival in India. The passport should have at least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer.
  2. You  must have return ticket or onward journey ticket,with sufficient money to spend during his/her stay in India.
  3. Nationals of Yellow Fever affected countries must carry YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION CARD at the time of arrival in India, otherwise they may be quarantined for 6 days upon arrival in India. Please visit  Ministry Of Health & Family Welfare latest guidelines regarding yellow fever countries here.
  4. eTV is valid for entry through 9 designated Airports i.e. Bengaluru,Chennai,Cochin,Delhi ,Goa, Hyderabad,Kolkata,Mumbai & Trivandrum .However, the foreigner can take exit from any of the authorized Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) in India

  1. Government of India has launched electronic travel authorisation or eTA for India which allows citizens of 180 countries to travel to India without requiring a physical stamping on the passport. This new type of authorisation is called an eVisa India (or electronic India Visa). It is this electronic India Visa Online that allows foreign visitors to visit India for five major purposes, tourism / recreation / short term courses, business, medical visit or conferences.
